PLOT
Krypto, a Kryptonian Labrador Retriever, consoles Kal-El as he travels in an escape pod with another infant survivor after the fall of the planet Krypton. Years later, Krypto and Kal, now known as the well-renowned superheroes Superman and Krypto the Superdog, respectively, reside in Metropolis as Bark and Clark Kent. Clark works for the newspaper company Daily Planet as a reporter and journalist. Krypto feels envious of Clark since he is dating Lois Lane, a fellow journalist.

Clark visits an animal shelter in search of a companion for Krypto after concluding that the latter needs someone to occupy him. When Ace, a Boxer, tries to leave the shelter, Krypto stops him. Later, Lex Luthor, the CEO of LexCorp, is seen by Superman and Krypto bringing in a meteorite that is loaded with orange kryptonite with a tractor beam in order to get superpowers. The Justice League assists the two in their victory over him.

Lulu, a guinea pig test subject from LexCorp transported to the shelter, succeeds in capturing an orange chunk of kryptonite with her own tractor beam, giving her telekinesis and flying. Everyone else at the refuge acquires superpowers without her knowledge. Ace has evolved into a super-strong, unbreakable being. PB, a potbellied pig, can now change size. Merton, a turtle, has developed superhuman speed. When Superman decides to propose to Lois at home, Krypto and the latter get into a fight. Lulu, though, manages to catch Clark. Krypto tries to save him, but he loses his abilities since he consumed a slice of Jarlsberg cheese from a Batman doll that was poisoned with green kryptonite. Later, Krypto runs into the animals from the shelter who agree to assist him; Ace only agrees when Krypto threatens to blackmail him.

As the Justice League is being held captive, Lulu gathers a squad of guinea pigs and travels to Stryker's Island to kidnap Luthor. The animals in the shelter attempt to stop her but utterly fail. They reunite in the Hall of Justice, where Ace tells an upset Krypto that he once belonged to a family with a young child as their puppy. When Ace nipped the toddler's arm and dragged her to safety one day, the toddler was about to go down the steps. The parents sent Ace to the shelter after noticing the bitemarks and believing he had attacked her. Ace, however, stands by his choices and principles. Krypto encourages the animals to go to LexCorp. A kitten named Whiskers was there. attempts to halt them. Before going to Stryker's Island to try to stop Lulu, the pack unites and vanquishes her. The animals from the animal shelter face Lulu on Stryker's Island, but when she threatens to hurt Krypto, they lock themselves up. Luthor betrays her and imprisons her after Lulu sets him free. She escapes with ease and decides to eliminate Luthor and the Justice League by herself.

Krypto regains his powers when the kryptonite eventually leaves his body. He tells his friends to stay out of harm's path out of concern for their safety and makes his way to LexCorp. While Lulu catches Luthor and fires a rocket from the structure, he defeats the Guinea Pigs. The Justice League or Lois, who is in a nearby helicopter, must now be Krypto's choice. While his buddies assist the League, he makes the decision to save Lois. Lulu becomes a huge monster when she injects the orange kryptonite into her head out of wrath. Pets and the Justice League work together to stop her. Krypto decides to perform the "Solar Paw Punch," a move that can defeat any supervillain but will probably result in the user's death, after realising she has grown too powerful.

The assault imprisons Lulu in a hot dog stand and removes the kryptonite from her head. Krypto accepts his fate, but Ace uses his invulnerability to save him.

Following the incident, Krypto permits Clark and Lois to wed, and the rest of the Justice League adopts all of the shelter animals except Lulu (who is kept by Luthor's assistant Mercy Graves). Later, the pets created the "League of Super-Pets," their own superhero group. In a post-credits sequence, Black Adam and his dog Anubis are encountered by Krypto and Superman. Krypto lures Black Adam into flying to Pluto with his owner.

Production\sDevelopment

DC's Legion of Super-Pets animated movie writer and director Jared Stern was brought on board in July 2018.
[22] Sam Levine and Stern will collaborate as co-directors, and Patricia Hicks had joined as a producer, it was revealed in January 2019. [23] After working in an animal shelter and observing how older animals were less likely to be adopted, Stern came up with an idea for the movie, wondering, "What if elderly dogs had superpowers?" [24]

It was revealed in May 2021 that Dwayne Johnson[9] would voice Krypto the Superdog. He would not only produce the picture alongside Hicks, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Stern, but he would also star in it. John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, and Nicholas Stoller would executive produce. [25]

Additional cast members were revealed in June 2021, with Kevin Hart serving as Ace the Bat-voice Hound's actor. In addition, unnamed roles for Keanu Reeves, Diego Luna, Natasha Lyonne, Vanessa Bayer, John Krasinski, and Kate McKinnon have been cast. The film added Jameela Jamil the following week. [9] [26] As Lex Luthor's voice, Marc Maron had joined the cast by September 2021. [12] By November of the same year, it was known that Luna was playing Chip, the squirrel-like Green Lantern; Lyonne was playing Merton, the turtle-like The Flash; Bayer was playing PB, the pig-like Wonder Woman; Krasinski was playing Superman; and, more recently, Thomas Middleditch and Ben Schwartz. [5] [6] Reeves was identified as the voice of Batman in March 2022. [11] The voice of Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern would be provided by Dascha Polanco, it was reported the following month. [18] The remaining members of the Justice League and Lois Lane cast were revealed through posters in July 2022, three weeks before the movie's debut. [27]

Animation

Animal Logic in Sydney and Vancouver, which also produced the animation for the Warner Animation Group's The Lego Movie series, contributed the animation for the film.
[28] On the movie, almost 70 animators toiled. The movie's animation took two years, plus an additional three to four months after the release date was postponed by a year. [24]

J.C. Leyendecker's illustrations and Art Deco architecture served as inspiration for the movie's visual aesthetic. Stern wanted the settings and figures to have "chunky heroic shapes" as well as apparent brushstrokes. [24] The designs of the characters, which nonetheless have a comical touch, were inspired by the Superfriends animated series and the Superman comics from the Silver Age of Comic Books by Mayumi Nose and Matt Williamês. [24]

Music

Steve Jablonsky wrote the movie's original score.
[29] On July 29, 2022, WaterTower Music released the soundtrack CD for the movie. [30] The songs "Message in a Bottle" and "Bad Blood (Taylor's Version)," both performed by Taylor Swift, are also included in the movie. [31] [32]

Marketing

Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Comics, and Fisher-Price announced the distribution of movie-inspired items on May 24, 2022. Clothing, pet supplies, toys, collectibles, costumes, and furnishings are among the available goods. McDonald's also said that toys inspired by the movie will be included in their Happy Meals. [33]

Release

In January 2019, the film was set to be released on May 21, 2021.
[23] As a result of The Matrix Resurrections, another WB movie starring Reeves, the movie's release date was later pushed back to May 20, 2022.
[34] It was then delayed, along with other Warner Bros. movies, because of production difficulties, to July 29, 2022 (taking the release of Black Adam, which also stars Johnson). [35] [36] The movie's debut took place on July 27. [33] According to a proposal announced by WarnerMedia in 2021, it is eligible to be made accessible on HBO Max and/or premium video on demand Sometime in 2022, however following announcements by new parent firm Warner Bros.

It was eventually made accessible digitally on August 23, 2022, and will be made available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD starting on October 4, 2022. According to Discovery, streaming scheduling will now be taken into account on a "case-by-case" basis. [37] [38]
